Description of the Modification
-------------------------------
I remember writing a letter to Carmack a looooooong time ago, prior to even
QTest's release, asking if they could please make some cool trees, that
combat fire could not penetrate, for realism, etc. Oh, so naive. This was
before it became so painfully obvious why sprites would almost be completely
eliminated in Quake...
Well, here are the first (I think?) of the map-based trees. I wanted to make
them for some time, but I kept running into problems while the quirks of QBSP
are still being worked out. Even now, with an old version of QBSP, the small
tree will sometimes give a point-off-plane error. To fix this, I just delete
it and reload the group.
True, the trees could be more elaborate, but I stopped when their compiled
sizes started to pass 100Kb. Plus, this is just the beginning - I hope these
trees will inspire some true map editing wizards to churn out some really
awesome trees.
Give it a little thought, and these trees can be made to sway in the wind,
catch on fire, limbs can break off/disappear/impale you (heh heh heh), hold
secrets - you name it! Have fun!
Known bugs
As I said, the smltree.grp can sometimes give point off plane with old QBSP.
Get a different version, or delete the group and try reloading it (can be a
pain).
How to Use the Modification
-------------------------------
These groups work with Quest 0.92 and up, the BEST editor, of course.
May be compatible with other editors, but I don't know.
Author Information
------------------
Creator of OgreSaw.zip (uses some unused id animation frames)
Creator of WaterFlo.zip (flowing water2 for Quake maps)
Creator of LavaFlow.zip (take a guess)
Creator of Chthon!.zip (not yet released - coming soon)
Creator of Trees.zip (this package)
Copyright and Distribution Permissions
--------------------------------------
I encourage you to use / modify / build from / do whatever with these trees.
All I ask is that if you do use or build from, and / or redistribute them
(as in a package or bsp) just give me a mention in your text file.
If you're a net-scraping, CD making, profitting off of other's work lowlife,
like those Zone! people and the most recent scumbags that allegedly even
went so far as to delete accompanying text files, then write me and all the
other creative people out there first for permission. It's the least you
could do.
